Bad For You EP
There I was going through my Discover Weekly playlist when I found a new groove, Bad For You, I had to investigate. AKA George, a twenty six year old East Londoner is bringing a raw realism to his music that is not commonplace these days. After listening to this EP along with everything else I could find I will definitely be adding onto my list of artists that I need to see live. You know once we are able to go out and live those lives we all so fondly remember. The videos that coincide with the songs are absolutely perfect in this quarantine, and you get more insight into who he himself is. It becomes clear that he is multi-faceted not just lyrically, but also in his ability to play multiple instruments. Which I myself am highly envious of, as I have always wanted to be able to do the same, just haven’t pulled the trigger.
The EP begins with Bad For You, which might just be the perfect quarantine jam. It’s also something I feel that everyone can relate to right? I mean how often do we desire something that we know is bad for us? Hello guilty pleasures. It has a classic almost Vines kind of feel to it, and a beat that I dare you not to dance to. This is followed by Up All Night, which feels just like driving around on a hot summer night feels. If The OC was still on this would definitely have been it’s updated theme song. This song is light and his vocals have such clarity, while having slight breaking which has always been a sign of the passion in the music to me. There’s a pandering what sounds to be a güiro that just keeps drawing you back in and aligns so perfectly in the midst of the instrumental and lyrical blend. This jam is followed by Stone Cold Classic, which dare I say is going to be a staple classic for me throughout my life. This is an indisputable pump yourself up song, which everyone could use at some point and time. The simplicity in lyrics, guitar, and drumming that is highly reminiscent of early White Stripes, which I always find myself loving. This is one of those songs you blast in your headphones while walking around that makes you feel invincible. Some may even pop this into their headphones and pretend they are shooting a music video for the song. Let’s be real, who doesn’t want to be a stone cold classic? Even better than being a classic is Money, the next track on this EP. The initial howl of Money about 30 seconds into the song just hits you in your soul, it’s all too relatable in our world. I mean how many times have we heard the age old adage of, “More money, more problems?” This is his soulful perspective on the role money has on our world today.
All in all, I highly recommend this EP, and anything involving AKA George, he is primed to have a big career and I am so excited to see where his extreme talent will take him. Have you all listened to this EP? What did you think? Who are you all listening to right now?
